自由軟體基金會與GNU計畫創辦人 Richard Stallman 即將於2005/5/27下午 3:00-5:00於新竹國家高速網路與計算中心演講，歡迎有興趣的朋友來。
使用GNU/Linux系統的朋友，您應該可以發現，裏面最多的工具程式大部份都是GNU 計畫產生的，您一定好奇，為何會有人願意貢獻自己的程式，變成自由軟體。 Richard Stallman 當年因為不想受限於獨家封閉軟體的限制，因而身體力行，請大家一起來，開發出一套作業系統GNU (GNU is Not Unix)，來取代獨家封閉的Unix 系統。在1990年代初期，Linus Torvalds 所寫的Linux核心，也採用自由軟體基金會所定的，最自由的License - GPL (GNU General Public License)來發行。由於人們愛好自由的天性，因此GNU/Linux造成風潮，變成今日一套主流的作業系統。
您如果想了解 Linus Torvalds 口中的"偉大哲學家"，請一定不要錯過這個機會。

摘要：
Richard Stallman will speak about the goals and philosophy of the Free Software Movement, and the status and history the GNU operating system, which in combination with the kernel Linux is now used by tens of millions of users world-wide.
現場並開放詢問問題，但是請注意，Richard Stallman堅持，您要明白的了解，和他直接有關的是Free Software(自由軟體)，而不是Open Source(開放原始碼軟體)。還有，如果您要提到一般俗稱的Linux作業系統的時候，請使用GNU/Linux。
